Maholra의 뜻은 히브리어로 "신의 앞에서 춤추는 자들"을 뜻한다. 춤이란 수족 및 몸을 움직여 즐거움이나 기타의 감정과 의지를 나타내는 동작으로서 오늘날 무용으로 볼 수 있으며,
예술의 한 분야로서 음악과 어우러져 행해지고 있다고 볼 수 있다. 춤으로 역된 원어는 여럿이 있는데 춤을 가리키는 보통말은 히브리어의 경우 “마홀” 및 “마홀라”로서 그 어근은 “훌”에서
오고 뜻은 “원을 그리면서 움직이다”, “수놓듯 운동하다”이다. Maholra Company는 춤의 시작이라 할 수 있는 ‘마홀’ 이라는 단어를 사용하며 춤의 본질을 잊지 말고,
신의 앞에서 춤추는 자들의 마음으로 춤을 추고자 하며 동시대 한국무용의 미학을 찾고 한국창작무용공연을 활성화하기 위해 다양한 시도를 하고 있다.
“Maholra” is a Hebrew word meaning “those who dance before God.” The term epitomizes the determination to never forget the essence and roots of dance and always view, create and perform a dance with the same reverence as if dancing before God. |
| 작품소개 | 자(子)는 어린아이가 두 팔을 벌리고 있는 모양을 본뜬 글자로 ‘아들’을 뜻한다. 한 여인의 아들이며 한 여자를 사랑하는 남자의 모습을 춤으로 그려보고자 한다.
남성 춤의 대표작품인 ‘한량무’를 소재로 호흡 및 동작을 분석하여 연결된 흐름의 움직임을 개별적으로 분해하고 재조합하여 contempopary한 움직임의 변화를 시도해 보고 한국 춤의
다양하게 변화된 호흡과 움직임의 미학을 찾아본다. 장구 장단과 대금의 전통음악을 기반으로 한 음악은 한국 문화의 특색인 멋과 흥, 정·중·동의 미학이 잘 드러날 수 있는
흐름 속에서 이질적이면서도 잘 어우러지는 작품의 분위기를 만들어 낸다. Gentleman is based on Hanryang-mu, a traditional Korean dance piece that is representative of male dance. The work explores a range of experimental breathing and seeks new aesthetics of mouvement from traditional Korean dance. This is done first by analyzing the gestures and breathing of Hanryang-mu, then disassembling the continuous flow of its movements to individual part, and finally reassembling them to create contemporary movements. The accompanying music is based on the traditional melodies of Daegum (large bamboo transverse flute) and familiar rhythms of Janggu (traditional Korean drum with an hourglasse shape), and embodies and reveals the style, fun and the aethetics of “jeong-jung-dong (stillnesse amid the mouvement)” embedded in traditional Korean culture. All the while, it dose not forget to add a touch of diversity that creates a unique ambience, which in turn integrates different et complementary elements into the piece. This original Korean titile of the piece came from the Chinese character ja(子), which represents a child spreading his arms and signifies “son”. In this piece, the artist hopes to portray a man who is both a man in love with a women and the son of a woman. |
